Hi chaps, in the middle of fitting my pro-alloy oil breather tank, it comes with a large pipe, (I think this replaces the pipe feed to the sump?) and a blanking plug, I'm assuming then the pipe the tank lines up with the new tank then joins and the pipe coming off the top of the old tank then gets re-routed to the bottom. Hoping this makes sense, question is have I got this right and where does the blanking plug go??????

Hi Paul , the new tank vents to atmosphere not back into the air pipe so the plug is to blank that off , the big pipe is the atmos vent pipe you use the original sump return pipe , hope thatakes sense . Tux

So this is the old breather, and it has three ports, all the same diameter

This is the new, also with three. If I understand right Tux the large pipe on the bottom should be blanked off, this then leaves only two ports and three pipes to connect??

Not quite right; the top connection is for the vent from the cam covers, the smaller bottom connection is for the return to the sump, the large bottom connection uses the large dia. pipe supplied by ProAlloy which just vents to atmosphere whereas the standard set up vents back to the air intake hose and it's that connection you need to blank off. Hope that makes sense.

The 'search' doesn't seem to be working at the mo but when it kicks back in there is a good thread with pictures about this. But failing that, the large diameter outlet goes direct to atmosphere, straight down out the botoom of the engine bay. You should have a new pipe in your kit for this. The other two incorporate the inlet and outlet from your original. IIRC al you need to do is shorten one of the pipes to makie it all fit. You then use the butt plug to block off the pipe that goes to the air filter outlet. Does that make sense?

hehe

So the large pipe connects to the bottom of the breather and this goes, open-ended out through the floopan. The butt plug otherwise known as a blanking plug goes into the air intake pipe. Only trouble is the plug is too big for that pipe.

It does seem rather too large for the hole but with a bit of wriggling it does fit. I think it has to be that type of fit to ensure that there are then no losses of air intake!

Surely if it leaked you would in fact gain air intake ? All be it unfiltered !!

You might find (as I did) that there's a copper pipe strengthener shoved into the hole in the air intake tee (so you couldn't overtighten the jubilee clip and compress the original hose). If you remove that you'll get the butt plug in without any lube wink

I fitted a K&N Breather (p/n 62-1170) and fixed the hose to the chassis with a spring clip. Apologies for the poor quality photo but hopefully you get the idea.

Cheers,
Graeme

If you have removed the oil seperator completely and just have a filter at the top of the engine breather, this to me is a fire waiting to happen !!
I hope I am wrong ?

Can I ask what the hard pipe kit has to do with the engine breather/seperator that is being discussed

Ha ha, good spot Steve, as you might have guessed, I was also having trouble working out the hard-pipe kit, didn't get any instructions, Wayne sent me this diagram. Absolutely nothing to do with oil breather

Think the filter fitted was at the end of the pipe for the air intake into the pro-alloy breather, so rather than open end, this one has a filter, not sure how much air is "sucked" in for there to be a filter???

Edited for FHT syndrome

Hi Steve. I have the Pro-Alloy Seperator fitted. The K&N is plugged into the end of the big hose that goes to atmosphere. A bit of engine bay bling!

Cheers,
Graeme

Can you relate the functions of each of these pipes to the original breather???
I.e. the one at the top goes to the top one on the new breather.

The one to the side is butt plugged.

The one to the bottom goes to the bottom of the new breather etc???

Thanks

Also someone said I need to clean out the pipes that I am reusing?

With what? Do I just take it off and run some water through it to clean it out then let it dry before putting it back on???
