THREE steps back....

Am I fed up? YUP!
Am I about to throw in the towel? ...Hmmmmn!

So... Gearbox in! - CHECK!
GBox mountings aligned! - CHECK!
Clutch fork engaged! - A Breeze!

New GT2 slave with whizzo special adaptor for Twin turbo box fitted....errr..well.....

..so the adaptor is right...the slave body itself is fine...but the position of the bleed screw...AHHHRGH! too long and NO WAY can it fit (whatever length it is) without hitting the cross-member of the chassis, mainly because it is coming out of the rear of the unit, and there is only about 7mm clearance between the chassis member and the back of the slave!

HELP! ..any ideas?

...and to make it worse, when I unscrewed the two 12 mm bolts holding the adaptor to the gbox, the first ...no problem.. the rear one...bind with the ally tyhread and all attempts to lub and gently tease out ,left a sheared bolt!!!!! - Oh NO! DUMKOFF - I should have copperslipped it before installing!

So now 2 problems- ideas please!

cheers

A very depressed Keith weeping

Will cutting off the nipple section of the bleed nipple give you enough space?
Which direction does the nipple face and is it positioned at the top of the cylinder when mounted?

In many installations the nipple is in the wrong place to get all the air out so you need to bleed with the cylinder off the car. In which case you can bleed with another nipple and replace with the short version when complete.

Steve - the nipple comes hozontally directly out the back of the slave, and is actually at the 'bottom' (top if oriented for the original installation), which means it is a few mms below the top of the cross-brace level - bang in-line!.

What you say is worth the 'punt' though, but rather than cut the original 'long' nipple, I will try to hunt down a very short replacement is poss (any Ideas?)

I will probably try drilling out the bolt complete with threads and use a nut/bolt for the rear...too much hassle trying to get the exact drill hole to re-thread methinks?

and for those who suggected the seeking of solace in a bottle.... I had both! A nice pint or two of Timothy Taylors 'Landlords' real ale, followed by a nice chardonnay...drinklickwobble

I have a G50/03 mated to a SBC in my car I used a BMW slave (80's 3 series I think very cheap!) which bolts straight in and has the bleed nipple at the top when installed bleeds without any issues has worked fine for 3 years, maybe it would suit your application?

Hey Mark!

Any idea of the part number or something that will help id the exact unit?
Bear in mind that the gBox is inverted thus the unit will hang from the bottom.
Could you poss provide diensions of this unit, ie the length?

cheers

The thread may be an ordinary metric thread so you could replace the nipple with a short bolt with a fibre or copper washer.

If, as you say, the bleed nipple is low down then you will have to bleed it off the car so fitting a bolt instead will not be an issue

Yus Steve, I will certainly be considering this. Having not built one of these beasts before, I suppose this problem with the slave positioning is a common problem, or is this a very box specific issue?
i.e the G50s in their varieties have more room?

cheers

You could be on your own with the chassis clash but the bleed being low rather than high is common hence the comment about bleeding the cylinder with it de-mounted.

Well Now!redface
Goodness!

One thing I perhaps did not maker clear was that I had to source a 'special' adaptor so that I could use a simple gt2 Slave, rather than the Humungous and complicated, multiport LUMP that is the Twin Turbo Slave. These adaptors have all the right drillings to allow a std slave to bolt onto with the std 'ears' and the adaptor then bolts to the same fixings as the LUMP I mentioned.

So I got home and had another look. Both the adaptor and the slave were preinstalled, so I took it apart and turned the slave around 180 degrees...and you guessed it! All that heartache was wasted...after drilling out the snapped stub I managed to shear off last time, the complete unit readily nestled into place, the bleed screw was snugly sitting between the Gbox and the frame with plenty of clearance...PERFECT...Looks like it was MADE for the Job! Not only is the slave and its bits well clear from the frame, but the added bonus is that the bleed-screw is at the TOP of the slave - Brill!

...why did I not think of doing that before? ..saving embarrassment and troubling you guys (Stalwarts as ever!)!

And so to the next delectable problem... Me gearchange bracket(ex factory) would not fit properly (holes misaligned by about 5mm. ..and even when fitted, the cable ends seem too far away from the selectors... need to look into this...

...errr...perhaps if I rotate by 180 degrees....???? wink

Keith
