Bless me comrades for I have sinned..

OK, so I'm still running it in (only a little bit left to go!), and I know I shouldn't have done it cos it's not nice to pick on the stupid, but 7.30 last night there I was, Derby ring road, roof down, gurgling home when all of a sudden there came into my right ear the sound of 4 cylinders mated to a bean can exhaust!
Checking the source revealed a seriously maxxed VW Golf of undetermined vintage, infested by two burberry capped yoof who were busy giving me the finger and some Johny large potatoes on the throttle pedal!

Now, I know it was wrong, but, well,I mean, I just had to didn't I? What with the wedge making enough noise to wake Thor since the rebuild and now possessed of enough mid range punch to flatten a rampaging bull I felt the need, the need for speed......

Waited for my moment at Markeaton Island, I was even good enough to give him a 2 second start! Off he sets, valves-a-bouncing, body kits a flapping. 5 seconds later, and with my ears ringing the wedge passes him at 5000rpm in second gear. The look of frozen shock on laxxer boys faces will live with me for months!

Will someone give me absolution?

Andy

No need
For it is written
'On the day of reckoning, those of back -hatted haberdashery, ill-manners and purveors of plastic bolt-on tat, will be smote mightly by a force akin to the Lords own thunder....'

If it isn't written, it bl##dy well should be.

Louises brother had a similar experience as the one you describe when I let him take the Chimaera out for a spin one day. We got really sneered at by two suited sales rep types in their 3.0L Vectra "totally new car" as they passed us whilst we pulled out of a junction.

Suffice to say as Kev passed them at abut 5500 rpm in third a few moments later they looked more like this

I have a confession to make - I was once one of those Max muppets, many years ago. I too owned a "modified" VW, and used to joy at seeing how fast I could pull away from the lights (not very, actually).

In the years since then, I have seen the light! It was shown to me that with the money I had once wasted on modifications, I could buy a proper car! I haven't looked back since (except to see the angry face of the bank manager and his minions pursuing me), and look forward to many more years of "proper" sports car ownership.

Ahh - confession time.

I used to do it too .. you give em the stare at the lights .. rev it loads and then really .. well just turn left and leave the other drive give it large across the cross roads .. hugely funny.

Did I ever mention that I had a Cortina MKII with a Swaymar tuned V6 (200bhp) when I was 18 .. huge acceleration and pretty stunning way back in the early eighties.

Nice!

A friend of mine (who shall remain nameless, but for his sins counts being a racing driver instructor amongst his talents) recounts the tail of being challenged at the traffic lights by a BMW whilst driving his Honda somthing-or-other. He reached across onto his passenger seat, picked up his crash helmet, placed it on his head, and turned and grinned at the driver of the BMW. Strangely enough the BMW started from the lights quite slowly. Been tempted to carry a crash helmet in the car for just such occassions myself.
