After narrowing my imenant kit purchase to an R1 powered engine I've been shaken with the prospect at an GSXR1000 at perhaps been a little more lively...

I'm looking for max road fun with some track time too in an MK/Locost/Fury

I've only had experience in two R1's (which were best described as staggering), and two CEC's which where tame by comparison...

The only engine I would be weary of is the Blackbird, needs a lot of attention to detail on the oiling side of things to survive in a car, can be made reliable so don't cross it off the list but beware especially if thinking of track use.

R1 is a good sound choice, blades are also robust, going larger ZX12 is a good I currently have a busa fitted, was looking for a ZX12 engine but a busa came along at ZX12 money so had to be had.

As you are already aware the R1 wont disappoint.

Maybe you should get a
ride in a car with a stronger engine, in terms of 1/4 mile times a 200bhp car is quicker than most bike engines. The mk owners club had a day at Santa pod and that's what the results shown.

I don't think ¼ mile times or outright top-speed are the reasons why one would choose a BEC. For one thing, BECs are much harder to get off the line than a CEC.

I wouldn't trade the driving experience in my XTR2 for that of any CEC worth even 4 or 5 times as much. Sure driving around the outside of everything else at a trackday helps but even on a Sunday afternoon drive in the countryside the 6-speed sequential, 11,000rpm and bugs hitting your helmet visor will keep you grinning until the next weekend rolls around.

BTW - That's a vote for a hayabusa engine, but they are a little on the expensive side smile

Got taken out in a R1 Fisher Fury a couple of days ago, by a maniac driver. Hot dry and sunny made for a passenger ride I had to work at harder than a usual drive.

The experience could not have been more different from the CEC's I went in. 12k revs, 6 gears with no clutch... made me wonder what the drive would be like with just a driver.

Oh, and convinced me of the BEC choice

RE: the GSR1000, just be aware a few versions have an alternator so weak the battery can go flat if you drive it a long time at night I am told???

Yes, twas me (Nigel).

Fantastic spin out Pete gave me - must have been out for a good 30 minutes plus. Nice tour of south west Devon :-)

I'm still deliberating whether to go ahead with the car
