impressive piece of engineering this:

your car would be so secure there- but i cant help but think you'd be waiting for it to retrieve your car, shutter opens, and your car is there with a thousand scratches, or broken wing mirrors, or just the wrong car entirely!

There is a similar thing in Aix En Provence.

My missu though her car was gone forever and looked quite upset!

Best of all, when the car came back they had turned it round so we just puled straight out!

Funny the parking assistent speaks Hungarian whilst the cashier once speaks German and then Hungarian again to the customer biggrin

To me this seems to be a nice idea but still has some weak spots as
a) You can't return to the car in order to leave some shopping bags without having to leave the car park
b) Whilst the parking process might not take any longer than in a regular car park, it's a big issue only 10 cars can be parked at the same time, 200 parking processes/hour are way too few for big city car parks
c) This whole underground arrangement stuff should eat tons of power which paired with maintenance will make parking really expensive.

what about one of these for motorbikes?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE4fvwTBtno

would end the problem of stolen bikes. and seeing as free parking for bikes is all but history now in london, it could be pretty profitable too smile

Nice body, not too sure about the face. Did lose interest when I realised she would remain clothed throughout the whole video. What was this about? biggrin

Seriously, what an excellent bit of kit. Can you imagine how much it would cost to build one of these in London?

Nice idea but not exactly sustainable. Just a higher energy consumption version of any other underground car park.

No chance of people in caterhams driving off under your barriers and not paying

No need to employ jobsworths to give out worthless parking tickets

People with nicer cars will use it as there is ZERO chance of parking dings

your public liability insurance bill will be MUCH lower!

only a small part of the carpark actually needs to be illuminated

a quick car return and repark feature could easily be added

They did have one in westminister but it closed about 5 years ago. It was not quiet so hi tech but basicly the same.
I have no idea why it closed,i only used it a couple of times but it was a bit odd!

We put one of these in on a project in Germany, its just a bigger version of your "usual" car stacker. Was amazing to see them installing it though... and not as expensive per space as you'd imagine.

Nice idea. The voiceover really annoyed me though, so much so that I didn't watch it all.

Do you know roughly how much it is?

Not off the top of my head, but will find it in work tomorrow and reply back. Seem to remember it not being much more than a basement car park cost per space, mainly due to being able to "store" cars better than you can park them (i.e. no need for huge circulation space)

Would have to be well maintained though or I can see a lot of angry customers with their cars trapped inside when it breaks down. One or two repeats of that and business will vanish like snow in the Sahara.

There is not a lot of height in those spaces, so I don't think a 4x4 would fit. The grooves in the pallet look a little narrow and deep too, anything low could ground out and something with wide tyres will end up with buggered wheels.

not all of the carpark designs use grooves.

search for the one at the VW HQ

they use a flat floor
