Hello all,

I'm currently looking to purchase a Westfield Megabusa or Megablade. I was looking for peoples (owner or not) opinions on both as I don't know a huge amount about either, so any info on running costs, performance, drivability etc would be very much appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

James

I've had a Megablade for a while now.

Running costs have been quite cheap - tax and insurance are low. A few niggley things have gone wrong, probably no more than you'd find on any 10 year old kit car though.

Choosing between the Blade and Busa all depends how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go. Both are good proven engines for kitcar use, but if they do go pop the Blade is a lot cheaper to replace (about £1k vs £3k+ for a Busa?)

Rough stats for blade/busa:

weight: ~450kg - (for a stripped out aero screened car)
power: 130 / 180 bhp
0-60: 4.2 / 3.2s
0-100 11.7 / 8s?
Top Speed: 120-130 - at rev limiter in 6th, depends on diff ratio.

Reverse boxes are notoriously shonky. They are noisy, vibrate and spit oil everywhere. Look for an electric reverse if possible.

I looked at a GSXR1000 Westy (nearly as fast as the Busa) and my Megablade. I ended up going for the Blade as it was the tidiest car, and still plenty fast enough for me.

You're still looking at 4. Something to sixty for a buss engined car, more useable torque on the road though.
