Weird Tyre Rippling on Renault's at Silverstone

I was wondering if anyone with more technical knowledge than me (i.e. more than none
) could explain what is happening with Vitaly Petrov's tyres as he goes round the new Abbey corner during qualifying.
I have been to many racing events over the last 7 years and have never seen anything like this and I would love to hear what people think and if they have ever seen anything like it too. Post examples if you have them.

The Autosport issue after Ralf Schumacher's accident at Indianapolis in 2004(?) had a front page showing the flex in the sidewall of Pedro De La Rosa's rear tyres around the banked turn. It was flexing similarly to the photo above of the drag tyre. I'm sure someone on a real computer (not a mobile) will be able to find the photo.
I suppose this could have been on an outlap or perhaps they were jsut running a lower pressure than others. But we all know the tyre moves a lot inbetween the wheel centre and the contact patch, this is just a good example of the visibility of it.

as to the comment about sidewall height, pat symonds had mentioned that the posibly move to 18" tyres on an F1 car would have ment that tyre warmers could become obsolete as there would have been a much smaller volume of gas and they would have heated up quicker on the out lap.
consequently, he als stated something about the smaller sidwall being less forgiving and as a result you would see a lot more emphisis on suspension design, and not this stuff thats a sacrifice for aero.
No idea what you are seeing on the tyre there. looks to be some sort of load at the contact patch from acceleration causing the tyre to slip around the rim as a result of the low presures. probably made wors as the car bottms out in bump just there due to the added clearance under the plank as the car rides the ripple strip.

F1 tyres are two thirds of the suspension.
It looks as though there is so much compression on the that right rear, with the tyre rotating so quickly, that the tyre doesnt have time to immediately reform to its proper shape before it becomes visible during its rotation. Also, the contact patch is offset from the top of the tyre, so its stands to reason that some deforming will be visible in the process of it re-aligning, when coupled with the compression its expereriencing in that corner.
It would be good to know if that was just an outlap or something? Deforming of the tyre carcass to that extent would be responsible for a lot of heat build up I would have thought. Not something you would want corner after corner. Unless its actually the result of massive heat build up?
