Anyone got a particular recommendation before I go to the web? I need a jumbo van (LWB) for 3 days at the end of Aug. Pick up and drop off same location. Ta. OJ

AMK, branches on South St at Clydeside and in Kirkintilloch, www.amkselfdrive.co.uk , I've used them a lot and find them to be much cheaper than Arnold, whilst having vehicles that are still usually clean and don't feel like they'll fall apart. Only bugbear is that you have to let them refill the fuel you use on return, and even if you fill it in the closest station to the depot they'll always squeeze a quid out of you brim the tank!

I haven't used them, but AMK have been recommended to me several times.

Boulevard Van hire are pretty cheap. My brother has used a luton from them a few times to move house.
They have a few sites throughout Glasgow.

Many thanks. It would be the cheapest option if it wasn't for the fact I need to drive to London and back via Suffolk (900-1000 miles?) so the 'free' 200 miles per day for 3 days and then 18p per mile will add up.

OJ, i used boulevard van hire years ago and they seemed ok. The cheapest round Falkirk area is Robinsons in Granery square beside ATS tyres. If they are the right price then might be worth the travel. Train from Glasgow Queen St to Falkirk High takes 20 mins and i will pick you up at the station and take you down. It's only 2-3 miles from station and i stay about 2 mins from the high station. The offer is there if required. I'll pick you up in the van, so you don't have to go in the yellow banana!!

2 transits and a Luton actually. Theyre great though, they cost peanuts and have branches all over the place.

Thanks very much guys - I think the Clarkson hire looks very competitive (and if you're reading Mr C the offer of a discount is always going to get further publicity amongst us bargain hunters...!); it's a local business and priced with with the best of the national competition and the added bonus that for £20 they'll also deliver the van to my home which suits domestically (much as I would be very happy to be seen in the 'Banana Split' Kenny - kind offer thanks). One way hire is very useful unless you have to move 3 beds and a 2.5 metre sofa to London and a similar load back - think my excess baggage might be a tad high! wink
