Been reading quite a few topics about cars and remapping dervs and I was just wondering if any derv can be remapped or only specific ones? Just because I have been "donated" a crappy 206 1.4HDi which is glacially slow and makes me want to aim it at lampposts every time i drive it so I am wondering if its able to be remapped to something so I dont have to avoid motorways because it doesnt have the power to overtake lorries!

A 1.4 HDi in a 206 ought to be reasonably pokey, surely? Are you sure the engine is in decent condition with all turbocharger pipes connected and unsplit?

Mind you, your definition of slow might be different to mine. smile Just seems like a decent inspection/service of an older car might be more cost-effective than the £3-500 expense of a remap.

Haha!

You're funny!
hehe
I thought those PSA HDi engines were high-pressure, high-output engines. Diesel torque in a small car is a recipe for fun, in my experience. It's been a while since I drove one though.

Doesnt sound pokey!
68bhp 112 lb/ft. 0-60 in 14sec...

I think a remap would do it some good!

Depends if you want a cloud of black smoke out back every time you accelerate.

From the sound of things, the word 'accelerate' sounds ambitious at the moment

Don't know about the smaller ones, but the 2.0 can be made reasonably interesting. Heat becomes the limiting factor, because for some stupid reason pug didn't intercool them

Apparently, if done correctly that shouldn't be a problem. I've also been told that economy can be improved from such a performance remap. All sounds too good to be true! biggrin

Well I have gone from a Rover Tomcat Coupe to this and its 7.5 seconds slower to 60 and has nothing in the way of accelleration unless downhill with the clutch in! Its all serives and everything(intercooler piping etc) is all in good condition as its an 02 plate and depending on how much a remap is and how much it iwll do for the car and where i can get it done ofc.

Wife has that engine in her Fiesta and while I wouldn't call it pokey, it works well enough for the intended application. I drive it regularly and never think to myself "this needs more power". More comfortable seats, yes, but its a small diesel econobox, you don't climb into one of those thinking "speed" or "performance".

You must have a duff one, mine is a 1.4 and is fast enough. Managed over a ton in it today without trying, I was only keeping pace with the traffic and noticed the speedo registering 110.

Remaps for them are around £300. It can be a bit sluggish at times but it definitely shouldn't struggle getting past lorries.

Angel Tuning remapped my Focus 2.0 TDCi last month and I have to say it's like a different car now. The extra power and torque have transformed the car's driveability. As for economy, it's hard to say. They claim an extra 8-12%, but obviously if you use all that extra power, you won't see that level of extra economy!

According to their website, http://www.angeltuning.co.uk the remap on the 1.4 diesel will give you an extra 22bhp and 40ib ft of torque.

As for the smoke, I quite like dumping a load of smoke on cars behind that are a little too close for comfort!

Well its not like I want it to be as fast as my old car because that would be stupid but I would call it pokey if it had something, anything in the terms of throttle response, speed, accelleration or looks hehe I agree its a small, crappy ecobox which goes from A to B the cheapest way possible(66mpg and £35 road tax) but I dont like how its got no poke to it and foot to the floor creates a panic on the car and it takes a second to realise, another few seconds to start doing something and a few seconds more to make the car move. I nearly had an accident in it because i had to accellerate to avoid a guy who drifted into the side of me on a motorway and the car didnt respond until a few seconds after and by that time there was a gap in the next lane and i had to throw the car into it to avoid being hit.

Get on www.206info.co.uk

I know of at least one there who has a remapped 1.4HDi.

But they aren't going anywhere fast whatever you do. The 2.0HDi is much better. Intercool and map them and you'll have a blast.

I've done 6k miles in my 1.4hdi now. Pace away from the line is not the best, there's nothing cooking til 2000rpm and 1st gear is so so short.

Keep it buzzing 2000-3200rpm and you'll have some turbocharged fun and still get over 50mpg. Tank to tank I'm averaging 65mpg.

I think later 1.4 versions got 16v and 90bhp, so an 8v remap must be worth 85bhp and 130lb/ft.

Later on they did a 1.6 16v HDI with 110hp, a vast improvement over the 1.4HDI. My 1.5D 106 (non turbo) was as fast as my brothers 206 1.4HDI.

A re-map will get it to about 95hp, which will make it tolerable but still nothing to shout about. Personally I wouldn't bother unless you are planning on keeping it for a long time. I'd keep it till I got bored (about a week) then buy something fast and uneconomical.
