There is a certain member of staff at our work who has an irrational fear of Frank Sidebottom. Being PH we are obviously sympathetic to this plight and thus are looking to dedicate a day in the office to Frank Sidebottom*, just for this member of staff.

I have had a look on Google and eBay and have struggled to find where I could purchase a Frank Sidebottom head to aid this lovely day.

Anyone know where I can get one?

* Though I didn't really get him as a performer, so really it is dedicated to scaring the member of staff.

you do realise he died recently? just checking...

ETA on second thoughts a Frank day would probably be a pretty good tribute.

I do... which is why the irrational fear came up in conversation!

This may, or may not, have come up in the "things that scared you as a child" thread.

A certain other colleague of yours may, or may not, have named the "target".

It's Riggers, isn't it?

Don't build it around a living persons head though!

Large round balloon, paper mache over it, pop balloon once dry, cut holes and decorate for maximum fear.

OK... so if Paper Mache-ing am I right in the following tools:

  1. - Newspaper, preferably Daily Mail is a suitable candidate.
  2. - PVA(?) Glue, is this the stuff you put on your hands in junior school and then took it off in front of girls saying your skin was falling off?
  3. - Some paints that work on the above, poster paints I guess?
  4. - Something large and oblong shape that can be removed from the centre of the mache, not sure if a balloon is the right size?

Mix the glue with a little water to thin it out a bit thumbup

Also, once you paint it,give it a coat of PVA to seal it

Penny, you are obviously the PH expert here smile... so what ratio of water to PVA glue, and how many coats of the Wail should I go for, for maximum sturdy and fear inducing head?

I had to make a turkey for a table display biggrin

Just a little water, it prevents it all sticking to your hands. And you will need to coat your object with one layer (long strips of RIPPED paper - required for a better finish) allow to dry, and then another coat...and repeat. I would say 3 layers should be more than enough, as long as the hole to get his/your head is wide enough and no pressure is applied.

Print this in large format - i.e. A3 Colour.

Cut the head out.

Glue to a paper plate.

Attach some string or even a rubber band.

Frank Sidebottom mask.

Its amazing what looking after children can teach you.

Just remember that he died last month.
