Home contents insurance question
Discussion
Hi all,
Me and my missus are moving in together in 2 weeks, the Lettings Agent says that we must have a certificate of contents insurance before we can move in, just have a couple of questions:
1) My girlfriend has had laptop insurance and mobile phone insurance individually, do claims on these count as claims on a home insurance policy?
2) The Lettings Agent doesn't have all the info I need to complete the quote (Number of smoke alarms, type of alarm system, locks, etc), can I provide partial information before I move in and amend it as soon as we get in the place? If so, what way should I do it? State the worst case, IE, no smoke alarms, alarm, crap locks, etc and then change the policy when I know what the score is? (I presume I'm unlikely to get a refund if I do this...).
All the Letting Agent have said when I need complete information is "Well other tenants have managed"...
Thanks!

Assume no alarm or window locks. Assume a couple of smoke detectors and then add 2 whem you move in for a few quid.Me and my missus are moving in together in 2 weeks, the Lettings Agent says that we must have a certificate of contents insurance before we can move in, just have a couple of questions:

Thanks, we've spoken to someone on the phone and basically she has a standalone policy on her mobile and laptop, some of her mobile claims were more of a warranty issue and her laptop claims were again warranty issues, so she's only had one claim of accidental damage on her phone insurance.

Ok I am more than likely having a blonde moment here but why do you have to have contents insurance to rent a property ?Me and my missus are moving in together in 2 weeks, the Lettings Agent says that we must have a certificate of contents insurance before we can move in, just have a couple of questions:

I was wondering the same thing - are you sure it's not accidental damage insurance they're insisting upon (I've rented at least one place where they've asked for this - so they know they can effectively claim via your insurer if, say, an expensive worktop gets damaged by a hot pan - or by trying to clean it with oven cleaner, in the case of one thicko housemate I've had!!)Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
