Call for End to Speed Camera Secrecy

Norfolk Councillors demand more accountability

A council meeting in Norfolk heard accusations yesterday that the Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership was running itself with no accountability.

The council's scrutiny committee heard that the Partnership was not answerable to tax payers and had no democratic input.

Councillors are said to have complained that they were unable to get any information out of the partnership about how much money it spends or how many staff it has. The chairman of the committee asked why the partnership was "so exclusive and secretive".

On the same subject, the The Eastern Daily Press alleges today that Norfolk police have commissioned a new report into the siting of speed cameras in response to in increasing backlash from motorists.

The partnerships are actually just like the east german stasi, accountable to no one.
Are the councillors getting bothered by the fact that their "partners" are cutting them out of the deal?
Tough krap. Theyre part of the organisation that screws us, i hope they in turn get screwed.
Just a bunch of cretins.

Don't sit on the fence, deltaf!

Perhaps we should actually be encouraged rather than dismissive. Councillors are generally a dozy and slow lot but if they've woken up to this then perhaps it will make a difference. It will take some time of course. It's also possible that local council elections are what they have in mind?

"On the same subject, the The Eastern Daily Press alleges today that Norfolk police have commissioned a new report into the siting of speed cameras ..."

But didn't they tell David Jamieson about two weeks ago that their cameras were correctly sited? If they are, then they're wasting the money they scam from fines. If they're not, then they lied to Jamieson ... or he lied to us!

Bah! Humbug!

Perhaps we should all be e-mailing and writing to the partnerships for information. Then, when it is not forthcoming we can complain to our MP's to do something about these unelected, Gestapo like highwaymen/women. I'm so f34ked off with this country, the scamera and the swinging tax laws that I'm moving to Spain at the end of the summer. Sinking ships and rats spring to mind. Martin.

Erm haven't they just elected a bunch of leftys in a huge knee-jerk reaction?
Not sure where they're headed, but I don't think it's anywhere I'd like.

the only reason any councillor gets involved in anything is either because there is a local election on the way and they want votes or they themselves have been caught.....i wonder if teddy taylor's views on them have changed since nearly being banned??

But their esteemed leader did call our esteemed leader a "bobo" (Ninconpoop). Apparently - he forgot to remove his mike, and it got picked up and broadcast on Spanish TV a bit back!

Perhaps not such a bad choice?

True, true.
Although they still have a great climate, lots of space, and (probably just a case of the grass is always greeener) a far more decent society in general.
