Balkan tour - car hire, etc ?

Trying to plan a driving tour around western Balkans - Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, B&H, etc.
Still loose at this stage, with inbound flight can be Zagreb...BUT, what is likelihood of getting a car hire for 2 weeks, and being allowed to cross some of those borders ??

Any thoughts how best to do this ?

Shouldn't be an issue with the big companies but you will need to inform them first. Also, expect to pay a hefty premium if your trip isn't circular, i.e, if you don't return the car to the country of origin. May be easier to drop the car at each border and wonder through to pick up another.

You'll probably be aware that the roads in those parts aren't exactly good either!
