I hope this is an easy one for all you experts,
tried to reverse the car out of the garage today, and
the brakes appeared to have locked on.Had to really give it some stick to move it.
Any ideas

Has the car been stood for a while after you'd washed it?

..totally agree...when i wash mine and then leave it for a few days, or after being out in the wet and leaving it, sometimes mine seem to lock up...think they all do that sir!...maybe if its locked away in a garage, it may be better to leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels...

Mine did when I took mine out for a drive wednesday. It had been stood in the garage for nearly 2 weeks, with the handbrake on. Normally, never have the hand brake on when its parked up (plus its naff anyway), but for some reason did on this occasion.

You watch...someone with a drab coloured Cerbera, (one thats not blue), will come out with a stupid comment that only blues ones lock up the back wheels after being parked up!

Thing is Paddy, they'll all do that. When I said 'locked up' I mean't i couldn't push it out of the garage because of it. Driving it out was no problem. I never start the car just to drive it 10 feet on to the drive. If I start the car, I like the engine to go through its full warm up cycle. But going back to your comment; yes someone is bound to say something.

Don't worry.

They do it even if you don't leave the handbrake on if you leave them outside.

I had washed it on saturday, but left it parked in the garage without the handbrake on. So does anyone know what causes it.
By the way SATMAN its silver, if it had been blue it would'nt have unlocked.

It may well still happen if the linkages for the handbrake are slightly seized. I'd check them to see if they are not. WD40 might help.

The pads can rest againt the rear disks. Over time, even 24 hrs if the conditions are right, the pad can 'bond' to the disk causing this problem. it is cause my corossion building up on the surface of the disk.

Oi. If youre going to post at least wake and turn the spell check on first before spouting such drivel.
What's "cause my corossion" when its at home??

After 3 weeks sitting outside over the xmas period my front brakes locked so much that when reversing out it dragged the front off side wheel along the road . Wasn't until I went forwards that it released.

I never used the handbrake so I suspect the pads/disc bonding theory.

Also to further back this up, if I drove really slowly I could hear a faint 'rubbing' sound until I braked a few times.

It was always worse after I had washed the car and then left it.
