im sure its been asked countless times before however after a quick google i cant find the answers im looking for.

basically im looking to sellup my pride and joys, so i can run a cheap car as a daily and build a track car, the only thing stopping me is insurance as the only reason i would be doing this is to stop the 2k a year quotes i get on my current daily and mental fuel running costs.

so.. at track days, drifting days, rally days out etc, does the car you use need to be taxed/insured/moted (i have intentions of trailering it everywhere and keeping it garaged)

any info on this would be great

Thanks
Chris

Nope doesn't need anything if trailering.

can anyone please confirm this? or does it vary depending on track/organisation

i assume they would want to make sure the cars are "safe" before letting you go balls out on a track

I thought for track days it had to be road legal and for 'testing' days trailering is fine.

I am by no means an expert in this area however.

No, no need to be taxed or tested or insured for track days

There is currently no need for the car to be taxed or tested. I keep mine MOT'ed, just to ensure that I don't miss anything impoertant during the servicing year and perminantly SORN'ed. This way I keep my registration and could, if necessary, make it road legal very easilly.

Check the rules with the track day organisers you would prefer to use, it would be a Mofo to sort a car then find they changed the rules.

I know MSE are fine with no MOT as I asked before I started my MX5 rebuild as was unsure if i'd make it road legal or not.

So if the car is not been trailered do people just pay normal insurenct? Or is there andyway of getting it cheaper. Would happily start doing track days and get a car but not wanting to be spending best part of a grand to insure it.

We (BookaTrack.com Ltd) do insist on cars being MOT'd (or race scrutineered in the past 12 months). No need for tax or road insurance though.

I would check you house insurance to see if it will cover your car for fire and theft. If not a zero road mileage policy is the way to go to protect it. The last thing you want is to build a great car and have it stolen from your garage.

MOT's not too bad, we have a very understanding MOT center close by so im sure they can advise me on what i need to throw back in the car to get it to MOT standards, it was more insurance and tax that was the killer

So how do you deal with a Radical that's only used on track days? No MOT no scutineering.

we rely on the theory that a car like that won't run for longer than about 20 minutes without some serious spannering anyway.

in all honesty, we're just trying to legislate the MOT failure sheds off track days. if something is prepped properly i don't have a problem with it not having an MOT. plenty of our clients trailering 205 GTi's or similar around - but they've spent half their life getting them set up properly for track days - so a world apart from some chancer picking up a scrapped Vauxhall Chavalier, innit.

Ah, you've seen our Radical then!

That's exactly what I thought Jonny, but thought I'd ask for the benefit of others.
