First Track Day - Bedford 23/07

Hi All,
I've booked my first track day at Bedford on the 23/07 with MSV...
I'm excited, other than the ring this is my first track outing and i'm slightly nervous.
I chose a novice session so that i won't get bullied by the more experienced drivers and i will be taking my MX5 as i don't think my Legacy will pass the noise test.
So people, any tips and more importantly is anyone from PH going?
Edit - Car preparation
- Make sure all fluids are topped
- Brakes are fine
- Tyres
- Generally healthy
Anything else?

Sounds like a good start. Take your time at first, there's a lot of track to learn at Bedford, drink plenty of water if it's hot and keep an eye on your mirrors for faster cars.
The MX5 will probably be much more fun than the Subaru so you are in the right car

However, this is a big however, my MX5 is totally standard so i'll be moving over to let the faster guys pass a lot.
I'll be taking spare oil and hopefully i won't have any 'offs'

That's the only thing I'd ad to your track day pack along with drinking lost of water as you will get dehydrated that another poster mentioned.

The MX5 will be more fun on track, honestly! (as a fellow Legacy owner) Plus you can give it absolute death all day without having to worry about chewing up brakes, tyres etc.
It may be slow on the straights but you might be surprised how much you can make up over some supposedly fast cars in the corners.
Have fun and post some photos if you get any!

Hi good too meet you last night (I was in the Blue TVR).
It was my first track day and I've not stopped grinning yet !
I thought your car was plenty fast enough through the corners, and lets be honest straight line speed is all well and good, but it's in the corners where the fun really starts. That said though that GTR thing was sooooo bloody quick.
A cracking evening, and one I hope to repeat very soon. I'll think to take a camera next time though!

Hey chap, hope you got home safe. I had the misfortune of taking wifey to Asda for an hour and a half as soon as i got back to Birmingham. The drive back home was tiring too. It was my first track day and I've not stopped grinning yet !

And what a lovely TVR you had too... I must admit it sounds awesome, a well cared for example that being driven like it should

Well then... what an evening!
I must admit as soon as i got there some of the cars people came in made me think that they are not quite the novices i was expecting.
Anyway we drove a 'fast' course apparently missing out some technical section.
It was brilliant! Once all the drivers broke the 'stranger' ice the banter and general talk in the pits was great! A very friendly atmosphere and other than a couple of 'bully' drivers everyone was well behaved. A brilliant atmosphere and credit to clubMSV for making it such an enjoyable experience.
It was tremendous fun, i did learn a few things though...
1 - I'm a crap driver
2 - I enter corners too quick
3 - I need instruction
4 - I'm a crap driver
5 - Don't try chasing Porsches
The Mazda performed above expectation however it was woefully slow on the straight sections, this was expected though so no surprise. The car was leaning a lot (and i mean a lot - 18 year old suspension might have something to do with this). I found it very easy to upset the cars balance and provoke a slide. The brakes heated up pretty quickly and the damn crappy Nexen tyres the car wore simply refused to help!
I span! All i remember i went for a bend then i saw grass, track, grass, track and then i was going backwards. Car then stalled
I managed to catch two slides before i span but to be fair i'm not 'yet' good enough to actually drift the car (yes i did try).
In the two hour session i went out four times. I only came in once the brakes stopped working and the tyres seemed like they are going to give up. In all fairness i wanted to make sure i'm legal to drive home too so i had that thought playing in the back of my head.
Anyway i'd like to thank PH as before PH the thought of taking a car on track never registered on my 'one day' scale and before anyone asks 'YES' i will be booking again very soon. Just a wee trip to the ring next month to get by soon.

Its my old car - good to see it looking immaculate and being used as it should be.
The only time i spoke to the driver was when we were heading to the track. I asked him if he is going topless, he was not too sure though....Is the black Boxter S owner on here ?

It's great to see an old car you once owned isn't it? It was a cared for example though.

I was in the green TVR, it's well worth getting an instructor - luckily I found a short one ( headroom issues!!) - I still managed to spin twice with him in the car, on the same corner! Glad you didn't get a pic of that! However, it did improve my lines, braking and turn in points.
The car survived ok - I just wish the tyres would stay that sticky!

Glad you had a great time however i never realised you has spun! It's a great feeling isn't it
Tyres - mine are still not dead! They jut refuse to die!
I'm looking to book another session on 28th August....
