I'm 15 years of age, and was speaking to some friends today about cars. They were literally repeating everything that was on Top Gear's last episode, really getting into it like it was fact. To somebody who has a wide knowledge regarding cars (though only a fraction of the knowledge of some on here!), the stuff they were coming out with just sounded ridiculous to me.

For example, they were talking about the Ferrari FXX, saying; "Yeah you buy it, but you can't have it. Ferrari let you drive it when they feel like it". Also, telling them that I preferred Evo's reviews by a long shot resulted in me being told that Evo was "Just crap and boring compared to Top Gear".

But I'm fairly sure they're right about the FXX.

Ferrari look after it, and you can go and drive it around some tracks when Ferrari let you...

I am/was in the same position of my mates thinking drifting is a faster way to go round corners (after watching fast and furious tokyo drift) induction kits add 1 million bhp basically all the bullst, i found it's not worth the hassle putting them straight so now i either just agree or ignore it. I don't even really talk about cars much with them anymore.

Totally agree with you and well done for not allowing your friends to change your views.

I guess when you and your friends are ready to drive in a couple of years, they'll be the ones in chavved up Corsa's etc whilst you sound like you'll a little more sense!

The FXX is not road legal so is understandably kept at the track - that's how I see it.

I'm pretty sure you can drive the FXX when you want, but only when arranged with Ferrari so they can ship it to the track of your choice and have their engineers on hand. Pointless anyway because it's not a car you "buy", it's a car that was only ever offered to previous Ferrari owners who were selected by the brass for the privilege. The FXX was used as a test car to gather telemetry that could be used to improve Ferrari's race cars.

Evo do better car reviews also, but Top Gear isn't about car reviews, so it's a bit of a silly comparison. Unless they are talking about Top Gear magazine, which isn't nearly as good a read as Evo, because they focus on the more mundane aspects of the cars they review.

and if anyone doesn't realise how far Clarkson's tongue is into his cheek they need a good slap afaic.

This is exactly my point - people repeat the stuff he says as pure fact.

Yep, this is exactly what they do, you get the two options of keeping the car in your own collection, and Ferrari provide engineers to help out if it goes wrong, or you agree to keep it at the factory where the engineers keep it in 100% condition all the time and then you arrange when you fancy a bit of a hoon.

It does seem a lot of money to spend on something that isn't road legal though, but it's the ultimate track toy I suppose.

But for the people who are buying the cars, money is no object I suppose.

I suspect that those who have paid up barely registered the blip on their balance.

True, there was a short feature in Evo magazine I believe, where the bloke being interviewed had bought every new Ferrari made in the last 10 years, thats some serious £££age.

And a mint condition, undriven FXX would go up in value I'd have thought, could be a bit of an investment.

what are you talking about?

fwd cars can only have 250bhp, not a single bhp more.

putting rediculously large wheels and brakes on a renault people carrier make it quicker round a track

every race i have with my friends across the world always comes down to the last minue

etc etc etc

its all scripted crap to amuze the 17year old vauxhall corsa driving, rediculously loud exhausting, bucky drinking, 15 year old girl molesting type. then they can talk to each other and they can thinkn they are knowledgable about cars.

best just ignoring them, every one likes different things in cars, and if they want to repeat some crap which someone else sais just let them, i know someone who talks about all these jdm crap stuff he buys, because its cool, but has no knowledge of half the crap he talks. but thats him.

i watch football, and then listen to everybody copying the same crap that old tool andy gray speaks.
