Bit of a long shot here, but I've got the possibility of Citroen Acadiane van with a seized engine (2cv derived). The car was run with the oil filler cap off and it looks like most of the oil spread itself around the engine bay. Oil still shows on the dipstick, to just below the minimum, but it looks like the engine has seized.
I've tried rocking the car with it in top gear and it seems to be rock solid.

So my question for anyone who has had experience of these engines, is what is the likely damage? Seized pistons in barrels or totalled crank and bearings or both?

Just trying to get a feel for whats going to be required to get it back on the road, the rest of the van is in pretty good nick and it would be useful to wallow around in.

Cheers all.

Ahhh the joys of ebay UK. Its a little trickier to find one online overhere, and the roundtrip from Bergerac to Norwich for that one is a little too much to contemplate.

It's that small they could pop it in a Jiffy Bag and post it to you.

Lack of oil would soon melt the shells leading to crankshaft seizure, best bet may be a replacement engine.

You're saying it's hard to find a 2CV engine in France??? A car that's as French as onions and hairy armpits? confused

It's a roller bearing crank, so it is possibly savable; I wouldn't bet a lot on it though. Buy some used barrels and pistons, or if you like faffing you might be able to hone the seized barrels if you can get the pistons out without wrecking them.

This^^^. Also if scrapyard hunting look for Visa and LNA models as they were sold with the same engine.

Hard to find one : no, hard to find one that hasn't been sat in a rusting wreck in a field for the past 15 years and the owner thinks is worth €100's : Yes.

The second hand car market and spares market is quite an eye opener when you are used to UK prices.

Cheers guys.

Another thought that occurred; join 2CVGB(or at least blag your way onto the webforum) as when I was a member(admittedly 10 years ago) there were people with friendly scrapyard contacts in France who didn't take the piss. Also try the UK 2CV specialists; I always found ECAS and 2CV City to be good for parts and they did do used stuff; there are many others with websites but I've never used them so cannot offer an opinion. Google will be your friend.
