Need to be in India for something, and NZ for a wedding about three months later. For the NZ trip this time I was considering taking an extra couple of weeks and seeing Australia for the first time. Then this India thing came up, and my gf and I are pondering just taking some time out and travelling elsewhere in between.

I assume a round-the-world ticket will generally keep travelling in the same direction so we'd spend some time in India then keep heading roughly west. Which countries, places and routes are must-see or must-do? We both scuba dive so doing some in Oz and possibly Thailand are on the cards. I've spent a chunk of time in NZ (and my gf is kiwi) so no need to spend extra time there.

Thinking India / Thailand / China / Japan / Australia / NZ right now, but open to other ideas!

thanks,

Simon

If you have the time then I would highly recommend Myanmar (burma), there are some beautiful places there, for example - the temples in Bagan,

Inlay Lake,

The country is less touristy than most SE Asian countries and the people are very nice. Also if you are feeling REALLY adventurous you can take the train from India to Myanmar.

I would also recommend Cambodia, again, ancient temples, nice people, some amazing and horrifying history. Also a very scenic country. Parts of it are like being in an Indiana Jones film.

We spent a month going from Singapore to Myanmar to Cambodia via Thailand (for one day). It was great. Although you will obviously have more time so will be able to stop off in Thailand for longer and also go to Vietnam if you so wish. One place that I would still like to go.

Worth the trip for sure.
