1992, done 162k...

Do we think she will do another 10k or shall I move £450 of my funds elsewhere?

Impossible to say, if it's got loads of history and looks/sounds fit then why not.

On the other hand if it hasn't seen fresh oil in 30K and the rear cross member is attached by rust only, you get the picture!

I assume thats a V8?

It is the V8 afaik. It would be for a euro trip and then disposed of when we get back.

We want something slightly odd, we planned one using a black cab but insuring one is nigh on impossible!

Also considering one of these:

£500 could potentially buy you a half decent 850 T5

I noticd that, sadly one of the group will be raped for insurance frown

The pro of the vintage volvo tank is that it is vast - will come in handy

I always figure that if a car has done a high mileage and runs well then it must have been looked after and will prob run for a lot longer. This theory has never let me down.

So if the Rangey is tickety-boo then it's prob worth a punt.

Rust will kill it, how much MOT does it have?

I had one with a similar mileage, bit better condition too. Lovely thing to waft along in, mine would crack the ton too. Get someone who knows them to check it out if you're taking it to Europe, they can be a minefield if they've been neglected

if the V8's been looked after it should be fine
if not the cam/lifters are probably well on their way out.

Check the rear half of the chassis VERY carefully
rear X-members can dissolve the older steel tank can leak at the seam.
and if its done a lot of towing the rear springs will have sagged a fair bit.

budget for 18 mpg on a good day 10 if you drive like me biggrin

A good one is a good bus a bad one is a nightmare unless your handy with the spanners

i have owned / rebuilt / spent a fortune on / five of them.
