The old town has got some lovely restaurants but it's been a while since I was last there so can't remember any specifically.

That doesn't really help much does it.

You aren't that far from the Pyrennes - some cracking roads with spectacular views around there.

Its not that far from the beach. Narbonne is big and has really clean sand. Go to the medievil city obviously and check out some nice restaurants along the canal du midi.

Visited Narbonne whilst staying in Carcassonne earlier this year. Good city with a good atmosphere. Go early and go to the fish market - really interesting plus great food to be had.

Medieval City is a must (as has been said) but prepared to be ripped off if you want to eat and drink there. Cafe Felix in Carcassonne (main square) is a top place. Great food/coffee/value and good for just watching the world go by.

Should give a few ideas.

And for something quite different but if you dont walk there from Carcassonne you probably wont have enough appetite.

Not forgetting the other Cathar castles in the area, especially Montsegur, but you need to be fit to get to the top.

The closest of them to Carcassonne is probably Lastours, I have some lovely pictures somewhere of the 4 castles.
