Recent rumer has stated that the AMG SLS was supposed to be the next Gen Viper... Of those that have seen both cars IN PERSON....what do you think?

What is a rumer? Isn't she Bruce Willis' daughter?

And the answer is no.

What? Merc and Chrysler separated long ago. Seriously doubt it was even thought of.

Well it's an interesting rumour and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the basics were originally a viper project. To build a car from scratch takes a long time and this model could easily have been started back before the split. There's no guarantee the chassis was only developed recently (see Mangusta/MG Xpower)

In fact it seems quite possible given that AMG previously never had any experience of engineering a car from scratch, and have just turned up with this out of the blue. Yes it could have all been done by MB although that's not what I've read - all in house AMG apparently. it could be that AMG or Merc decided they wanted a custom sports car, and the option to buy this half done viper chassis came up in the split. Only question is whether it's big enough to have been a viper.
