Sleepless in the Saddle 2010
Discussion
Since last summer (when I left working in a bike shop) I've been absolutely crap - hardly ridden, don't commute by bike very often, feel a bit crappy about it really. Got the belly to prove it too, embarassing.
I've realised part of the reason is I have nothing to aim for - my last race was MM09 back 13 months ago!
So as of yesterday, I've been roped into SITS in a couple of weeks. Time to dig out my lights, my mud tyres(!) and my old shop kit! Not really got a particularly suitable race bike but the 6" travel Heckler will have to do! In a very much 'sport' level mixed team anyway so it wont actually involve that much riding. Really looking forward to it, gotta get as many miles in in 2 weeks now as possible!
Is anyone else going? I've not done this event before and as I'm a bit out of touch with the forums etc, not really sure what its like. Decent course? Racing round a field or proper mountain biking? Mudfest?

I did the Enduro 6 (solo) this year, which is at the same venue and on a similar if not identical course.
The events - SITS and Enduro 6 are both organised by Pat Adams and his team at Provelo - are well run and have a reasonably good sense of occasion. For my liking, the course is not quite technical enough and gets to be a bit of a slog, but I did all 6hrs straight whereas most people are in teams, so do less mileage.
My mate who I ride with managed 3rd overall in last years SITS womens solo class, having also competed in 2008 - a glutting for punishment. I, on the other hand, have decided that racing is not for me, certainly no t solo - I can't enjoy it, but feel compelled to push until every minute feels like I'm out of breath to the point of feeling winded, like I've been punched in the gut. Never again!
