Hi guys

Once again my flight is cancelled. 1000000000th time this year. Next one is on Saturday. I am not counting the lost lugguages, infinite delays, unbearable Ryanair service etc.... Anyways, I am just fed up with all this and consider getting a car that would only be used for LONG motorways journey.

It has to be the cheapest possible, decent enough to do 2 x 800 = 1600 miles return trips. Will never be used in town. Only holiday motorway trips.

After a 1 min think: 605srdt, 406hdi, sunny 2.0d, carina E, etc.... + the usual suspects.

Any bright idea, something I haven't tought of?

cheers

PLease provide details of

Budget
What kind of trips? UK? Continental?
Longest distance in a day?
Fuel consumption requirements?
Is this only going to do 2 trips for the cost of an airticket - or will you use it next year for the same purpose?

Mk3 Mondeo TDDI. Can be got for next to nothing, no commonrail rubbish to go wrong, can run on veg oil if required. Also built for motorways. Comfortable, quiet, and good brakes.

Mercedes E300TD or BMW 525 TDS: both cheap as dirt, both good on fuel and both a nice relaxing drive, although the Merc would be better for this. You can pick either up for £1500 and easily recoup the investment when you are done with it.

I did 745 miles in my Caterham in a day a few weeks ago. Just about any other car this side of an Atom/X-Bow/XTR would be easier to travel in, so you have a very wide choice.
