Forums and email addresses

Hi,

I ws speaking with a chap online today (not on here) and he said he would not post his email address in the forum because he did not want spam. My question is how will he get spam - do people scan the web for email address from forums?? How the hell do they do that??? Very scary, not safe anywhere!!

Spam from sites such as PH is unlikely. I suspect this chap is worried about address scanning from websites that contain mailto:[e-mail].

The spammers search for the charactor strings 'mailto: and @' then rip the mail address from the website. This can be easily avoided by encoding your mail address. I do this on my website. It all looks normal but the html is encoded.
