Car Business Insurance
Discussion
Wife needs "Business Insurance" on the car as it is a policy of her work (local authority) as she visits local schools in the area. She has managed to blag lifts from others so far but this is not very practical.
Tried to add this to existing policy last year but was too expensive as would require a complete change of policy as current insurer does not offer such an addition.
Renewal just arrived, very good price with same insurer. Asked about Business Insurance option but was quoted £150 extra to change policy.
For the amount of milage she does (a few 100 miles per annum) it is not worth it at that price.
Does anyone know a cheaper way to get suitable cover?

This. Find yourself a new insurer that does this. My aviva policy includes business travel as standard, no extra charge. You only pay extra if you are carrying equipment/stuff related to your business, thats a different class.supertouring said:

Unless there's something odd going on I would suspect a mis-understanding on someone's part about the level of cover required. She would need Class 1 business use.Try doing an online quote with the same company but selecting Business Use for the class of use.

I was not aware of this "class 1" so will look into that.

...again, very unusual as casual business use is so common these days, hence some insurers include it as standard to avoid their policyholders being caught out. Direct Line do, for example, and someone mentioned Aviva, although I doubt they do on all policies.Who is her current insurer?
I think you need to get away from the term 'Business Use' OP. Sounds like the computer monkey you're speaking to is trying to put Class 2 on there - business use for a load of drivers, e.g. the MD's car that gets borrowed by various employees.
Class 1 is fairly standard and shouldn't really affect premium by much if at all. It's there on all the comparison sites as a choice, not called Class 1 admittedly but it's the next one up from 'S,D & P incl. commuting to one single place of work'.
