Don't know if this has been posted already but a friend of mine was telling me about a massive oil leak in china that has leaked twice as much oil out into the sea than the bp disaster in the gulf, thought i would of heard/seen something about this all over the media as to whats happened, there is a few paragraphs on bbc news web site, any one else heard of this terrible news.

As I understand it, oil leaks are not uncommon.

"In fact, more oil is spilled from the delta's network of terminals, pipes, pumping stations and oil platforms every year than has been lost in the Gulf of Mexico"

As often happens in the media, we'll hear about every oil spill for a month or two, then it'll be forgotten again.

There was a rather large one in austrailia like the one in the gulf and we heard nothing about that as it doesn't meet the requirements of the UK & USA media/government.

This really can't be the most efficient way of clearing up a big oil spill!

some amazing pics in that link just can't get over the fact that this is a common occurance in oil production, yet we're made to belive oil shortage is going to happen and that we must pay more for it which i can understand, but to have poor measures still in place to prevent spills even though they make such high profits just annoys me as no doubt the consumer will be the one who gets the short end of the stick.

Yes, I think that was what I said.

"In fact, more oil is spilled from the (Niger) delta's network of terminals, pipes, pumping stations and oil platforms every year than has been lost in the Gulf of Mexico"

In the Gulf I was astonished to see workers wiping stalks and leaves of plants with using cotton wool balls.

Collectively, there was 10,000,000 barrels of oil spilled during Hurricane Katrina. That is hardly ever heard of.

Anyone catch Mock the Week last night?

"BP & their slick lawyers" hehe

I thought that a significant amount of oil ends up in the sea from ships flushing their tanks, or does this no longer happen?

Back in May in the Gulf they kept finding surface oil where they weren't expecting it from the BP spill
It's clear that a lot of ships were just using the spill to be able to cover up their own dumping of rubbish oil
