Does anyone have any recommendations for any particular webcam and also for an advert free method of getting an automatically updating image onto a webpage ?

Logitech are pretty good and come with all the software required to do what you are looking to do.

Think mine was about £20.

Try www.tincam.com/ for the software - IIRC it places one line of text on the website to say it's unregistered software. Of course you could pay $19 (just over a tenner) and register it!

If you were planning on spending £60, you could get a cheap digital camera with a webcam facility. That's what I've done.
