New Batterie - Any Suggestions

Hi All,

My batterie just died. Lasted five years.

As my car runs only a 1000 miles per year, I need a batterie that will last.

I have all the ctek gadgets and it is connect all winter.

Any suggestions what works well?

What are you guys running?

What are gel batteries about?

I have an Odyssey pc680. It works very well and is small enough to give lots more leg room for passengers.

Biggest one from Halfords for a Land Rover/Range Rover. Come with a 3 year guarentee (which they do honour) but with your Ctek it should be fine. Quick, simple and less than the price of a tank of Optimax.

My old Audis A6 Quattros used to eat batteries and the rate of one a year...God I love Halford 4 year warranty

Huge increase in legroom for the passenger.

I didn't realise Dulford were offering that service. I may have to look at that next year as it is always something I have fancied doing but I would never attempt it myself. The passenger leg room in the Griff is ridiculous as standard.

Remember that in a Griff there is the little problem of the heater selection flap and associated motor. This does limit the space you can get, so if you go for something like a pc680 you still win 4" or so but without the effort of putting on new cable.

Presumably if you move the battery to free up space in the footwell you will need to get some new floor carpets made if you want it to look half decent? In my Griff the floor mats end at the battery box so would be 6" short. Also there is a metal bar across the footwell (in mine the ECU is tucked up behind it) just above the battery which I guess you need to cut out, so I guess this isn't structural?

Thanks for the great suggestions. I guess an Odyssey Battery is something to look at. Visiting their website, I found a whole range of options and sizes.

Why would I opt for a smaller battery in terms of physical size? I don't care much about leg space. I´m the driver ;-)

Also is the pc680 the best option in terms of size?

Finally, what size in terms length, height, width is normally the battery in the box in the footwell?

At present I don't really plan to move anything around. Just looking to improve the battery situation.

Original fit was an 072 so as long as its the same size or slightly smaller you'll be OK. I think all the box sizes will be slightly different being hand made. Go for the biggest CCA you can find and a long warranty.

There's an alternative to the heater flap which I opted for, it involves some self tappers and silicon sealant! I still 'use the force' when it comes to the heater controls in my car.
