My other halfs parents currently have a Toyota Corolla (1999 shape, whatever that is) and they're finding it incredibly hard to get in and out of (It's a RIDICULOUSLY low down car for what is it, why did Toyota make them so low?!)

So they're thinking of getting rid of it and getting something else, they'd probably get about £1000 for it so that's what they'd be able to spend, what cars meet this criteria?

  • Petrol (They're used to petrol)
  • Comfortable
  • Easy to get in/out of
  • VERY reliable
  • Budget of £1000-ish
  • Not sure if they're fussed about manual/auto, I imagine manual will be more reliable at this price?
Thinking of a Mondeo, are they quite accessible?

Cheers smile

Also, is a £1,000 Focus likely to be a dog?

What about a 99/00 SEAT Toledo, reliable & comfy. You could even get the 2.3 V5 for under £1k.

or some sort of Saab 900/9-3/9-5?

I would call it the complete opposite of reliable, and the V5 even less so. Makes a nice noise though.

For a grand, then you're better off going for something big.

Mondeo, Saab 9-5 etc however all of these will be old and worn out. Buy on condition more than model.

Merc 190e? At least some of them (all?) have height adjustable seats so you can be perched quite high.

Very comfy and solid, and relaxing to drive (they're too slow to drive in any other way).

Omega? Or is that too big? My dad's 71 and has dodgy knees, no problems getting in and out of his.

I've been looking at Volvo S60s, if you can find me one without galactic mileage for a £1,000, I'll be in like flint.

The cheapest you can find them in respectable condition that I've found at £2,000+

Nissan Maxima QX, 2.0 V6 SE

As smooth as a baby's bottom
As comfortable as Fern Britton's bosom
As easy to get in and out of as Paris Hilton's vagina
As reliable as the BBCR4 Shipping Forecast

Should be able to get a V/W/X reg for a grand. No timing belts to worry about, it's a chain. Usually driven by sedate pensioners. Extraordinary reliability engineered as standard.
