Bought a 996 last night which has something quite amazing on it.I've never seen it before but had recently heard of it.There is basically an option now to have a switchable sports sound. There is a button below the PSM button which has some sort of bypass valve.Basically 996's have no exhaust sound worth talking about and this system creates an amazing sound, very similar to a Gemballa system if anyone has one.The chap had it retrofitted by porsche to a 1999 c4 996 so anyone can have it.It cost him £1200 and i can say its the best £1200 anyone could spend on their car.Its the first 996 to excite me in 6 years.Anyone else got this system ?

There was a thread on this a few days ago, Joel - get with the programme

That said, there was conjecture about whether it could be retro-fitted or not, IIRC. 1200 sounds like money well spent...

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I bought a 53 plate 996 from new and when it arrived @ the dealer, it did not have the switchable sports exhaust system on it.

I can catagorically confirm that I had it fitted by the Porsche dealer when I got it. It is part of the "Techquiment?" brochure and therefore can be retrofitted to a 996. It does sound fantastic on full chat!!

By the way, anyone know if Porsche will bring out a similar kit for the Cayenne? Even on full chat, my Cayenne does seem like it needs more sounds for all those pulling horses?

Got one for my GT3, due to be fitted in a couple of weeks.......also looked for one for my Cayenne, but they do not have a system for it yet, but believe CAMBALLA have serveral systems for both the S and Turb0
....However, have a look at this www.tubistyle.co.uk and go to "media"

[, but believe CAMBALLA have serveral systems for both the S and Turb0

But will it put out as much power as a FIBSPEED?

I think it may be Gembella who make the after market porker goodies

Called OPC today about the switchable tecquipment item. He says the switch can only be functional on post 2001/2 cars , and this wasn't just the loom difference, but something to do with the vacuum system too.

Price with switch GBP1850, without GBP1550.
Same part fits, just no 007 style whisper mode - which makes it's advantage over other manufacturers systems less attractive.

Dealer just called me back - he said he'd checked more and said that it was possible, would cost extra GBP85 (for 'some modifications'), and switch would be matt, unlike early car's shiny.

Now I'm interested again.

The first and only other car I have come accross this on was a Mitsubishi GTO 3000 Turbo from about 1993.
