Sorry if I'm being dim but are you saying both of these cover a 711M?

There may well not be a book devoted solely to the 711M Crossflow - there is one called "Rebuilding and Tuning Ford's Kent Crossflow Engine" but I don't have a copy to know how well it covers 711M specifically.

I know the Haynes "Ford Fiesta 1976 - 1983 (#334)" covers the very similar crossflow block variant, the 771M (the Mk1 XR2's 1600 has no side engine mounts and a shortened water pump / timing chain/crank area which can't take a duplex timing chain), 'cos I've got one of them ;-).

If I was to bet, I'd put money on the '75-'78 or '75-'80 Ford Escort Haynes manuals as being ones that would. You can get them for a fiver on fleabay (equally, you can probably find much of what you need on t'internet anyhow)

There is no particular manual on the 711M block that I am aware of.Early Escort Mexico's were fitted with 691M blocks but changed to 711m blocks around mid 1970.It is slightly stronger than the 691 the main differance I remember is the diameter of the cam followers was increaced substantially (I had a 691m that cracked the block around cam a follower, the follower flexed jambed and broke half the head off the cam follower and machined its way through the cam in the time it took to stop the car)This happened whilst really pushing the engine to its limits. On saying this I never had a crossflow engine that I did not break.

A Ford Escort MK1 Mexico Manual should cove both 691 and 711M blocks.

I use a Mk1 Capri manual which covers '69 - 74. This covers the 711 block and the GT spec engine. Includes dynamo servicing as well as alternator (if you still have one) etc etc. Helped me through my recent engine re-build.

Here is one :-

I second the "The rebuilding and tuning the ford crossflow engine". Help me loads on the rebuild and sorting the ignition system!
