My husband has suggested I try to enlist some help! I'm a PA and my boss wants me to find and buy a Polo SEL (Highline in Europe), 3 door 1.2 TSI with DSG gearbox (petrol) with lots of extras! Cannot get in UK but I believe this is available in Europe (not Southern Ireland - I've checked). Has anyone tried to buy a right hand drive version of this from anywhere in Europe? Is it possible or am I wasting my time researching this? Any help or advice gratefully received! Nicola

In RHD you'll really struggle. If he can deal with LHD there may be a chance.

A "boss" with enough "clout" to "need" a PA. And he wants a stupid specced Polo?

He's rubbish!

Just trying to do my job...if it's a no-go that's fine. Constructive comments appreciated. BTW his other car is a Porsche Carrera 06 (really) so this is just a shopping rocket.

We had a Dutch right hand drive import in for a service. Though it was right hand drive all the lights were for driving on the left, the headlamps dipped the wrong way and the single rear fog lamp was on the wrong side. They all had to be changed at a cost of £100s.

The speedometer was calibrated in Km/h and the odometer read in Km. The odometer should be capable of been changed to miles through altering the country coding of the dash panel. Extra costs to consider.

I have bought a few cars from belgium in the past they were right had drive and largely UK spec.

I just found a dealer list from the manufacturers website and emailed a few dealers asking if they could supply whatever it was, some were helpful, some didnt get back - i even got a discount for ordering right hand drive

Good suggestion, but be aware that cars have different specs in different countries, so a Cypriot "Highline" or whatever, may not be the same as a UK one.

It might be worth enquiring why these are "not available" in the UK - it may be that there is just a waiting list. The scrappage schemes in various countries gave manufacturers the opportunity to de-stock and many cars are now only built to order as a consequence; so it may be unlikely that you will find one in stock with this spec anywhere.

Just a bit extra on that as I was rushed earlier.

In 2000 I purchased a Seat Toledo for my folks from a Cypriot Dealer who ran an ad in the UK.

I paid £7,500 for a car that was then retailing (pre-negotiations) for just about £11,000.

True, it had some idiosyncrasies (A speedo that read to 240 mph for one), and a couple of non-UK parts but it never caused any problem come service time etc.

It is still on the road and in family service, although my sister parked it in a ditch recently and I fear it will be dead.
