Windows forgetting their settings?

Everytime I get my MK3 serviced I always have to get the window height adjusted to stop leaks.
For a few months afterwards I don't have leaks and then all of a sudden the windows go up too high, lift the roof slightly and cause leaks and more wind noise.
Having never adjusted the window height I'm wondering if it's easy to do so and also why the settings are lost. I use the car daily and anytime the car is left for a few days without use it's on a trickle charger.
Is the Tuscan window height "stored" somewhere - is it really that clever?

I just know Paul Smith's s/w counts the number of cog teeth clicks for the length of travel and stores the postion in the window ECU. Not sure how the base reference is set.. if its fully down or fully up. Are you sure its not the curve of the window thats causing your problem.
Cheers Keith, Heath always resets the window height at every service and the problems goes away. If it's easy enough to do it I'll do it myself rather than have water coming in. If the window ECU does store some sort of count then I suspect that it's either forgetting it's settings or a faulty ECU. It happens on both sides over time.I'm sure the mechanism must be the same as the MK1, if it is then it's very simple - it must be as I've done it on mine a few times and I'm far from mechanically minded!
Simply remove the door panel (3 screws in the door pocket on a MK1), then you'll find 2 brackets holding the window in place, both have 2 allen key bolts, loosen them off and position the window up or down depending on how it needs to be adjusted. Close the door, test it, adjust again if necessary and then put the door panel back on again. Can be done in 10 minutes

No need to move the whole assembly, there's actually an adjustable physical stop on the channel that the window slides in to set the closed height. Take the interior door panel off as above to access. It's a while since I did it so can't remember whether it's in the front or rear channel but from memory it's a long screw with a knurled end which screws in or out to adjust.
