Z3 2.2i problem, help needed please
Discussion
My 32,000 mile 2002 2.2i Sport (M54 engine) has thrown a wobbly and I am concerned that my local indie might have a problem sorting it. I have a warranty but it has onerous conditions and I have little faith in it paying out.
It suddenly lost power at the weekend and when I pulled up it would not rev, almost as if the throttle cable was broken but it has fly-by-wire so not that. It would try to rev but stumbled and there were numerous dash lights on including the engine icon (emissions?). After a minute or so I switched back on and after a further period the lights all went off and the engine started and ran. I drove about 25 miles home with only a couple of misfires. A code reader showed P1638 (Throttle Valve Position Control; Throttle Stuck Temporarily). The next day it would start but was back to the refusal to rev and on the dash were (as far as I recall) EML, emissions, DSC, and ABS lights. The code reader showed P1635 (Throttle Valve Adaptation; Lower Mechanical Stop Not Adapted).
Has anybody any ideas please?

Well folks, it's running again and apparently normally. Regrettably the warranty probably won't pay for it though. The warranty will pay only for failures, not incipient failures and the garage took the throttle body apart because their computer confirmed that the problem lay in that area, they cleaned it and its contacts and reassembled it. After clearing the fault codes it started, stammered a bit while it reset the parameters, and then ran normally. The proprietor said that he could fit a new TB at £200+ but the warranty company will almost certainly want one their peripatetic engineers to see the failed part, and it wasn't failed any more. It might go again in which case he will leave it failed and then call the warranty company - they can then examine it with confidence. Trouble is if he did do a good job on it and it is fixed, I'm out of pocket!
