i haven't slept all night, 90 minutes until I travel 4 junctions down the motorway to pick up my nightmare of a baby.....one bad break up, 2 years of nothing but trouble but my tamora is finally finished lol, and i pick her up in 90 minutes?!!! did i already say that? lol

Bought her from a scrap yard (my ex convinced me to save her) it had a rather nasty engine fire plus god knows what else, sat for 6 months in his garage, we broke up, i had it moved to somewhere else, and it's been an uphill struggle since then lol, trouble finding parts, she's been having lots of temper tantrums, she's 3 months late but now finally ready and i think i've almost killed the mechanic lol - he looks like he's aged 20 years lol.

i'm more worried about getting her home! i've never driven one before - nor anything else rear wheel drive (dad is getting a bit anxious - baby girl and all that, i actually think he's more excited than i am).

And i must confess i know absolutely nothing about TVR's been on here for a while having a nose around but....oh well we'll see how it goes, if she carrys on at this rate i'll be bankrupt before I have time to worry about anything else lol

Good luck! You should not have any problems driving it - the throttle pedal travel is very long and I bet you won't even get past 3,000rpm if you're not used to the noise, smell, general feedback the car gives. Remember the brakes slow the car by how much you press the pedal - so press harder to stop faster, they are not overservoed like many modern cars.

btw, expect a few niggles from a car that hasn't been driven much for a while. Sensors, dash readings, iffy windows or odd rattles. None will be hard to sort if the car is basically solid and straight.

Whos been doing the work and where do you have to drive back to - if its a TVR specialist I'm sure they'll help you out.? They are pussy cats but the floor mounted pedals do take a little while to get used to. Keep her under 4k rpm and you should have no problems as theres little torque before then (presumably you've opted for a 3.6 S6 engine?).
Also remember to warm the engine through - 2500rpm max until the oil hits 40deg and 3500max until 70deg, then its play time.

I've had it done by local TVR spec, only 10 miles from home and it's all motorway. I'm expecting lots of niggles, but know its a sound car, it should be mint, i've paid him enough! there's probably more new parts on it than original lol

Out of interest, did you save any money by going this route?

Good luck - you'll have great fun. I found I was very nervous the first day, listening out for every odd noise or sensor fluctuation, but after that you relax and can 'feel' what the car is doing.

Be sure to write back and let us know how your first drive went! I was sg a brick on my first drive, but as others have said treat them with respect and they are a pussy cat.

For the first 2 weeks i used to get butterflies and the shakes just walking up to the garage to take her out.

Now i just get butterflies when i walk up to the garage

The pedals do take some getting used to but are rewarded with so much more feel than your typical eurobox.

Just take your time getting to know her. There will be days when she will have the hump (time of month?) but a few tweaks here and there and she will be fine.

Out of interest how much was your enitial outlay on her and then how much was the rebuild?

Good luck and enjoy yourself, had my Tam 3 weeks now and got it out today after nearly 2 weeks solid of storms. Nearly cooked in a queue on the M62 but once on the B roads it was time to let it go and have fun with the shift lights. great car

hi guys,

well.....she's home but she's not perfect. driving her for the first time is probably the scariest thing i've ever done in my life!!! just got home now

niggles list - she's going to the ex tomorrow to try and iron them out given up in the tvr "specialist" lol

1. speedo not working
2. mileage not being recorded
3. oil pressure light on dash not working
4. fuel guage up and down like yo yo
5. handbrake needs sorting (just rolled into my plant pots as i was writing this lol and it was in reverse gear!)
6. as a result of number 5 chip to paintwork at front

i'm exhausted already! all i'm told are associated with the dash ecu so that's being checked out tomorrow.

money side of it... i bought it for 7.5k in 2008, it's an 04 with 27k on the clock, was badly damaged becuase of engine fire, front end totally destroyed, engine salvageable, needed new air box etc, pricey stuff is result of missing parts - taken off at salvage yard before i bought it - no dash ecu, no engine ecu, had trouble finding an air box, had to get new bonnet, new roof, full repsray, total cost just over 6k on repair.

and i'm a bag of nerves already - can it get any worse??? lol

Btw. Set the tyre pressures to 24 PSI all round before you go out tomorrow. Trust me.

yeah drove great, speedo not working, so it works out that 2500 revs is about 65mph so haven't gone over that.

i'm too jumpy yet to start enjoying it, it'll be back in the garage for a few days anyway come tomorrow, i'll be alot happier once i know everything is solid on it (maybe its a female thing?).

To be honest i don't know if i'm going to keep it, going to give it a couple of weeks to so how we get along, but i'm very much aware it wasn't me that wanted it in the first place, i mean i was really excited to get it but i'm scared stless every time i get behind the wheel of it and i don't want to drive a car that makes me feel like that.....it'll probably work itself out just beginner nerves. lol

don't worry about it too much, its still just a lump of metal and plastic with an engine, brakes, comfy seats. See if you get used to it, you're bound to get lots of male attention in it

The faults that you mention don't seem too bad considering what has been done to the car. Item 5 is a careless oversight and needs sorting out. Items 1 - 4 possibly all relate to the same problem and could be the ribbon to the LCD display that is loose. Item 6 is just one of those things, depends how bad it looks I guess.
