Price of bangers - skewed by the scrappage scheme?
Discussion
My gf currently has a 1999 Ford Ka (1.3). Standard affair, blue with the dodgy grey bumpers, typical Ka rust at the sills and round the fuel cap. Also the roof is a touch dented as some joker ran over the top. About 80k miles with 6 months tax and MOT. Also suffers from a dodgy idling issue which I think I've localised to the ICV.
Anyway, she's moving into London for work and is looking to sell the car. My sister needs a little runabout so I offered to take the car off her hands - all things considered I was thinking about £250.
She has however now informed me that since it qualifies for the scrappage scheme (is this even still continuing?) it is worth a lot more as is possible to get the extra £££ on trade on (iirc you need to have owned the car for a year or more?).
£250 for the Ka or am I being a tad harsh/generous?

Scrappage scheme ended a couple of months ago
Indeed.Scrappage scheme ended a couple of months ago
Small cars like the Ka are making good money. Saw one in worse condition than your girlfriend's (honestly, if your girl's one is as bad as this you'd have to really hate your sister) make £350 at auction, cat C, no history, many owners, more rust than paint
The scrappage scheme does seem to have firmed up the prices of bangers though.
Couple of years ago, you could pick up some AWESOME sheds for not a lot of money, I was scoping out all sorts of nice cars for £500, bangernomics style.
Now getting anything that doesn't need money spending on it, for under a grand, is a challenge it seems.

It's not too bad at all to be fair, I think she's owned it for the last 6 years or so. I don't think there's a panel on there that isn't either rusted or dented but for less than £300 with the t&t, can't complain. I was going to buy a camera lens with that cash...no matter.Driven it once when the E30 was having its top mounts done, quite a fun little thing to nip around in actually. Pleasantly surprised.
My sister will not be happy with the cassette player on the dash - given the integrated stereo, anyone know how easy it would be to install an aftermarket system?
