Flying to the US tomorrow and I remember towards the end of last year using the toilets or walking around once hour before landing was prohibited, as was the use of blankets during the entire flight. Is this still the case?

Err, never heard that. Everything was normal last time I went a couple of weeks ago.

Good to hear...

It was fine last month when I flew there with Virgin.. I think those restrictions mainly applied to US carriers.

that was only ever a couple of over-zealous airlines and only for a day or two - completely normal now....

Totally fine. They're still arsey about fluids in hand luggage mind, forget what the limit is. Don't forget to register for ESTA online before you travel either

But still expect to fill in the green i94 on the plane and stand in a queue for over an hour when you get there wondering why the hell they don't have enough staff on to cope - they must know how many planes they are expecting!

Yeah, they're pretty rubbish when it comes to immigration. Just avoid JFK and head for the smaller airports wherever possible and it's way better smile

I flew into Boston a few weeks ago and it took 90 minutes despite us being one of the first off our plane. They have stations for about 30 passport people and had 5 of them open.

I flew into Minneapolis on Monday and out yesterday. This month they have finally stopped the green I-94 card business. As long as you have ESTA clearance it's logged against your passport (and if you don't have it or a visa you won't be allowed to depart anyway) so you now just complete the white customs declaration card, one per party. I don't think this is all US entry points yet but you may be lucky. When I got in the immigration queue there were around 5 people ahead of me and they were taking 2-3 minutes to process - was still through a good 10 mins before my bag arrived. As ever plenty of pre-departure security checks and questioning (was on Delta from Amsterdam so same Airline and departure point as the failed underpants bomber) but nothing unusual about the flight itself - seat belts on for descent but not before and in flight map operational right up to touch down.
