....for speeding offences.

According to my latest copy of "Classics", Adrian Flux has decided to drop the practise of loading insurance premiums when points are as a result of speeding offences. IIRC there are exceptions, but their basic reasoning is that being caught speeding is no longer a good indication of accident risk.

So if commercial companies think speeding isn't a good indicator of accident risk, then how the hell do the government manage to keep a straight face whilst feeding us this bullshit?

Shame AF suck so much...

If AF were the cheapest in the first place, this might mean something, but since for a lot of people they're more expensive than other big names after they've loaded for points, I can't get too excited about this.

I did say there were exceptions I'll dig the article out tonight and see if what they told the press matches anything you get told.

I've gotta admit on my last renewal (2 months ago) I mentioned I had 6 points for speeding and was told by Sunninghill that they were only interested in bans !! Result !!!!

My insurance company has never been interested in speeding offences.

I suggest that you change your insurance company if they are trying to increase your peremium.

I have 3 ins policies (2 car 1 bike) all 3 were aware of 3 pts on my licence, during last year I picked up a further 6 pts for speeding (although the 3 have now expired - phew!) and at renewal the following occurred (all fully comp ins):

1. Car policy - remained unchanged.

2. Bike policy - wanted more but changed broker and got insurance over £100 cheaper than previous year (ironically with the same underwiter!).

3. Car Policy - wanted more but changed to another company and got insurance at about £10 cheaper than previous year.

Strange as it may seem in their attempt to make "speeding as socially unacceptable as drink-driving" I fear the govt have actually made it more 'socially' acceptable - one ins company even commented to me that the 'norm' is 3 pts, due to proliferation of scameras etc and as such do not consider points as negatively as in the past.

My broker said, "We don't load you for having SP endorsements". We will penalise you for an MS90 though (failure to supply)

Direct Line add 10% for an SP / TS /PC code online...

Fantastic! Good on them for showing some intelligence and also for not using points simply as an excuse for bumping up premiums.

I have done about ten test quotes online with various companies. Every single one of them loaded about an extra 10% for having an SP50 (exceeding limit on motorway) 3 points and no ban.

Obviously hasn't got through to most insurers!

Liverpool Victoria don't load for speeding convictions too, unless they result in a ban under totting-up..

They don't load for modifications either, which is nice

Mind you - if i was on the board of an insurance company I'd also look for any excuse to load the premiums!

Did the same a couple of years ago - and saved money in the process.
