Thinking of going to silverstone with Goldtrack in August. I have an ACU gold stickered Arai in new condition - looks like a car helmet - even has spots for hans posts on the shell (GP5X) - will this be acceptable or do I need to hire an MSA approved (or otherwise) jobby...?

Looking for a simple yes / no from someone who actually knows please.

Thankyou.

So technically Lidl had a crash helmet for sale recently ACU Gold stickered for less than £30 then that would suffice
(Not opening the debate re price/value of your head)

If its good enough for the ACU then its more than good enough for use in a car. Suggesting that car helmets are designed to endure more is foolish...

Designed to endure different I think is the thing. A helmet in a car is more likely to have multiple impacts to the same place. A bike helmet will likely have 1 big impact hitting the ground and then drag along the floor a bit, possibly with secondary impacts on other parts. Hence SNELLs multiple impacts in the same place on a metal ball being a rubbish test for bike helmets...Not bad for simulating helmet vs roll cage though.

I agree though. If it's good enough for ACU it's good enough for a trackday helmet IMO.

What use is a Nomex lining? Think about it when youre lapping in your jeans and cotton shirt.

A fireproof lining is of questionable benefit when youre wearing full underwear, three layer FIA suit and an FIA balaclava - its about as much use as a sh*t on a stick on a track day, or in most club races for that matter...

With regards to the 'multiple strike' old chesnut: SNELL multi-impact test lids for their car approval, but this doesnt mean that a car lid is actually manufactured differently. I'll wager that my Arai will pass (and, God forbid, most lowly 'bike helmet' approved Arai or Shoei lids) too.
