I have a problem getting shirts which fit properly, my neck is quite thick so I need approx. 18" neck size to be able to fasten the top button, however the sleeves are then too long and the body is stupidly baggy hence I look like a clown.

If I buy shirts in a 17" neck then they tend to fit nicely but I haven't got a chance of getting around my neck and doing up the top button. I've not had to wear ties for work so this hasn't been an issue, however I now need to get some shirts with which i can wear ties and avoid looking like a clown.

Has anybody else had this issue and if so what are the solutions? Or am I going to have to resort to getting them made to measure, which is obviously going to be somewhat more expensive.

Your best bet would be going to a shop such as "Big & Tall" the shirts will be more expensive than most places (IE dont expect a £2 Asda shirt) but they do free tailoring so they could make a big necked shirt smaller in the body for you.

It depends how out the shirts are really though, how about just trying a "slim fit" one?

Slim fit sounds like your best bet to me. And shop around, even between high street shops like Next and Burtons, tailoring varies enormously.

Try somewhere like TM Lewins, as they sell shirts with different length sleeves. Or maybe a short sleeve shirt? Not my personal choice, but an option.

Anybody ever used these guys?

http://www.itailoronline.com/

About £30 for a patterned shirt and they ask for about 6 or 7 measurements.

Stick with 17" shirts and either move the buttons on the collar or use those fastener jobbies which span between the buttons thus wideneing the collar. A tie will cover it up.

As a last resort you might try winding your neck in?
