On the very last leg of my way to and from work I either go through a smooth 40ft long, fast flowing, 4-8inch deep ford (the wet kind not the automotive one), or I drive half a mile further taking in a few of those brutal rubber speed bumps.

Which is going to do more damage? Normally I take the longer bumpy route in, on the assumption that dowsing the already crap exhaust (rs clio) while its hot isn't going to do much good, going through the ford on the way back when everything's cold. Could the regular dunking actually help by washing away road salt?

Flanders.

I'd go through the Ford. I wouldn't have thought water could Damage a car too much. It should all be protected.

I think.

Where is your air intake? You really really don't want to suck water into the engine. Is the ford liable to flooding in heavy rain? Is it easy to turn round if you find that the ford is too deep when you get there?

Doesn't the cat suffer damage (when it's at operating temp) if immersed in water?

Well later in the year obviously....

Standard intake and location, which is quite far forward, going slow with plenty of revs (believe that's correct?). Majority of the time, whatever the season the water levels stay well below 1ft marker, thats about where i draw the line with it, in a light car you're already having to steer a quarter turn into the flow of the water.
