Hi all , gonna have to remove gearbox (g 50 on sbc ) to change snapped gear change rod , just need a bit of tec advice please , will i have to remove drive shafts compleatly for clearance or can i just remove them from box end and let them hang down , any other things to look out for ? i assume starter stays on engine side of adaptor plate , and clutch slave cylinder comes off off complete without disturbing hydraulics ?? cheers for any ideas

You should have no problem leaving the driveshafts in, as you say just disconnect from the box. I cover the greasy ends with sandwich bags to keep them clean, same with the flanges on the box. If you need to then tie the shafts to the chassis to lift them up and out of the way.

As for the starter I don't know, mine is on the gear box side so has to come off. But don't forget the release fork, that has a 10mm bolt on the left hand side, undo that and slide the pivot out. When it comes to putting it back together use elastic band(s) to hold the release fork in place, you get faster and faster the more times you do it wink

As Phil said

Wrap a piece of carpet round the lower chassis tubes then lay a piece of plywood or MDF between the rails so you can slide the 'box along it.
