as the title says, the wife was driving down a country lane on the border of Sheffield and Rotherham and hit a deep pot hole and has smashed the wheel. I want to put a claim in for the wheel but I am concerned that my wheels are 22" and not factory fitted. Does anyone have similar experiences and what was the outcome?

Did you take a photograph of the pothole for evidence?

Surely it won't matter what the wheels are. As long as they're declared on your documents as a modification, they have to pay for what was damaged.

A couple of months back my son hit a pot-hole and damaged his alloy & tyre. I reported the pot-hole on-line, took photo's of it and measured the width, length and depth of the hole and then submitted a claim with photo's to the Council (Leeds). It took a while as they put it in the hands of their legal team, but they did pay up after 2-3 months. So, if you follow the right procedure you can get compensation. There is a thread on here somewhere that explains the best procedure....thanks to whoever it was who 'steered' me on the right course.

Interestingly, the pot-hole I reported was fixed within 24hrs so make sure you get out there with a camera and ruler quickly before all the evidence has gone. Martin
