635 CSI Cutting out.

Before I lose the rest of the plot has anyone got experience of the following. I have a 1982 635 that cuts out with no ignition light when driving but when I turn the key off and on it restarts? Doesnt happen often but it`s annoying to say the least. I suspect that old age may have something to do with it??
