Are we strange?

I'd hazard a guess that about 90% of people reading this forum are TVR crazy.

If we don't own one, then we are potential owners of the marque.

What do we have in our head that makes us like this?

Speaking for myself, I need a 'fix' of TVRdom every day. If I can't or don't get to drive it every day, I seek my drug here on Pistonheads(registered trademark!).

I talk about my car to anybody who will listen. I bore people who don't want to listen. I try to talk to my missus about upgrades I'd like and "Its gonna be sunny on Saturday" is frequently heard at home.

Are people as passionate about other makes of car, I wonder. Sure, there are other car clubs but they're not TVR!

What is it about that lump of plastic and metal sat in my garage that really arranges my life for me?

Is it just me?

I have pictures of my car on my 'phone to bore people with, but when someone asked 'have you got any recent ones of baby tramp?' I realized I hadn't.

I haven't seen my Tuscan for 3 months so have to make do with pics. I can't wait to drive it again.

TVR drivers do seem to be more friendly and helpful than other marque owners I've had contact with. You also don't get the new/old model snobbery that can be present with some.

100% with you on this one, it gets in your bloodstream. There's just something about the cars. I like to think it's a peculiarly british thing, that sort of slightly offbeat view of life that makes us take the biggest engine possible and stick it in the lightest body, just to see what happens. Raw power but also superbly individuallistic styling. TVR seems to work the principle that, if a designer comes up with something that looks totally spaceage, lets do it.

People drool over the cars of the future in films, TV programmes and at car shows. Go out and buy a TVR and you find the futures already here. A road going Tardis; in fact, let's get one in the new Doctor Who (I see a campaign coming on).

Couldnt agree more.. .. ..i put it down to the fact that we are slightly more evolved than the average car owner !!

As thegamamekeeper saai it lasts a long long time still running the same tiv we bought in 1979 so had to buy another one for the other half too

Strange, obsessed, different, individualists.
Yes! Guilty as charged m'lud, and i'm proud of it.

It's easy to run with the pack and be "safe" dull and boring.
Having expressed your individualality by having a TVR,
then finding it such a fantastic experience, it's only natural I think to develop that evangelical zeal towards the mark. After all you were probably warned by family and friends before hand that getting it was reckless and foolhardy.
Ha! How wrong they were! And how happy you are you proved them wrong.

I doubt very much if other marques can bring such happiness. If I won the lottery twice I am sure I would still be totally encapsulated by TVR's

In my opinion it's very strange indeed not to be totally in love with TVR's but then I suppose It takes all sorts.

Before i bought my TVR (over a year ago) i drove a 1973 Alfa Romeo GTJ for fun. It took me nearly 3 years to restore the Alfa and i must admitt i still believe it's a wonderful car but....... it has been sitting in my garage eversince the TVR arived. The TVR is just fantastic and i always dislike putting her back in the garage to switch for my everday car no matter what the weather is like!!

I could not agree more, I dont even own one yet a its being made www.sleepy-fish.com/factorytourmar2004.htm (the yellow tam) and I find I am already obsessed!

But the thing that strikes me is its all very friendly, and from the company down. How many companies invite you around there factory tell you to come back anytime or send a camera for updates! I think older MG owners may be in this category but you are right there is no snobbery and everyone loves all tvr's. I can not wait to hit the road, is is standard practice to flash and wave if you are driving and see another tvr?
