My daughter has a PIR operated outside light with security screws fastening the cover on.

The bulbs blown and I haven't a tool to undo the cover, the head is recessed into the cover so can't get mole grips to it,fitting looks almost new but the previous owner didn't leave anything behind to undo it.
Don't really want to have to smash the whole thing off and replace if I can help it.

Does anyone out there know what this tool is called or where to get one from.

Head looks like this.

The normal drill is to get an old or cheap screwdriver and hacksaw a slot in the blade.

I'd imagine a proper aladdins cave type hardware shop that are kicking about will have the proper tool for it?

If its a cheap one, the corrode into a single, unrepairable mess. It will drive you insane trying, and failing to fix it.

Spend £3.99 on a new one...

ETA - this might be a better quality set to get with it being draper http://www.abbeypowertools.co.uk/torx-and-tx-star/...

Ordered,thanks for the help.

Yes I know it would be cheap to replace, but it would mean carting drill, extension and other odds ands sods, and if I do that you can be sure there will be "whilst you have your tools with you,can you just",then half an hour turns into half a day.

If you're lucky, check on the top of any emergency light isolator switches, lazy people tend to leave them on top of them.

If your totally stuck you can usually get them out with a pair of sharp small scissors, a very small nosed pair of pliers, a teaspoon that has been modified, tapping it round using a terminal screwdriver and lots of patience! Not that I've ever had to do it.... hehe

Other, really annoying to other people alternative, is to go to diy store, open box and 'borrow' said tool but check box contents before you open all the boxes!

I've been trying to find a screwdriver handle that can accept all these bits, i've got a full set that i can use with my drill but would be lots more useful if i can put them straight into a handle!

Any suggestions?

Most if not all interchangeable screwdrivers have a 'hex' fitting I think.

+1 exactly what I once had to do, if fact I used the very same screwdriver today for a similar function.

Bosch made a kit full of bits which included a ratchet screwdriver, mine came from Homebase, although a that's few years ago so I can't say it's still available.

Didn't include what I need now obviously.

A decent motor factor should have a selection to choose from, but I have yet to find one I'm really satisfied with.

Draper do a nice cheap blue one which is robust and comes with a few bits stored in the handle. Unfortunately, the shape of the handle doesn't lend itself to really tight screws and the shaft is fairly thick so it's rubbish when it comes to recessed screws.

I've also got a nice ratchety one with a slim shaft made by Teng which seemed very well made when I bought it. Unfortuntely it falls to bits all the time because it's held together by a single screw that comes undone. When I can be bothered, I'll reassemble it with some threadlock like they should have done in the factory.
