Has anybody got any?

After having a discussion with a few friends last night, it seems there's a fair divide between people who are very much 'live for the day' and others with '5 year plans' etc.

I've spent the last 6 months or so with a very much 'live for the day' attitude, however, don't really have a great deal to show for it now but it's all fun and games.

It's time for me to start being a bit more sensible and get myself back on track so I'm currently planning what I want to achieve and how I'm going to get there.

So does anybody else have any long term plans i.e travel the world, start a new career, start a business, marriage, kids etc etc or are we quite happy just to take everyday as it comes?

Sort of - I am planning on travelling the world next year (leaving in March) hopefully for 18 months. I want to write a book as I go along and aim to fish (yes, I know) in every major destination I visit (from the Amazon to ice fishing in Norway).

I know it's been done before, but it should be something to tell the grandkids!

After that - who knows!

I'd like to buy a farm and settle down with some sheep of my own. One day.

Havn't got a clue what I'll be doing next month, never mind next year.

5 Year plan? If I'm alive in 5 years I'll be happy.

I've got a dream about buying some land, I'll give the booze and the one night stands. I'll finally settle down in a quiet little town and forget about everything.

Finish uni whilst getting experience on the side in the area I want to progress in (forensic psych and ABA therapy, very different I know). Get a job in area of choice, do an MSc perhaps. Progress, do some travelling at some point, get on the property ladder. Work for myself.

Not to mention wanting to enjoy what I do, and find a decent man (hmm) one day.

What's the fking point?

You're going to die.

If it's later rather than sooner, there'll probably be some accident or medical condition that makes your life hell.

If not, your marriage will fall apart and you'll lose everything and never see your kids.

If that doesn't happen, the recession will kill your job, then you'll lose everything, and then your family will leave you.

And ultimately, you're going to die. Cold and alone. Probably in debt, your unfulfilled plans taunting you.

May aswell just kill yourself now then...

While you do that I'm going to try and enjoy life before the inevitable happens

I generally have a rough idea about what I want to do, and vaguely work towards it, but get far too distracted by stuff really. Off abroad for 12 months in October, then pray ive got a job to come back to. If not then might well not come back, but set up in Oz or NZ. Who knows? Certainly not going to worry about it.

Don't plan anything really, one day I may get someone pregnant. I know that so far I've only met one person I could tolerate doing that to on purpose, and I finished things there last year.
I will change jobs when I see another job that interests me, and I'll buy houses if they will make me money.

Most of my plans involve spending my money and enjoying myself. If there is someone close to me I want to enjoy that time with, then they get to join in until I get bored.

I don't plan to save too much money, if I have any left over at the end of the year and not invested, I have a nice holiday.

I'm heading to South Korea to Teach English next week for a year then the current plan is to do more of the same in different countries for the next 5 years or so. Not your standard 5 year plan smile

I know a couple of people who have done this in South korea and they both enjoyed it thoroughly. Have fun and enjoy the experience.

Live for today but have a plan for the future. You're not going to get hit by a bus tomorrow unless you purposely go stepping in front of buses. I've had over 14,000 tomorrows and not one of them included a close encounter with a bus. (That said, I nearly did get hit by a bus because I decided to take a risk and skate across a busy T-junction down a steep hill. It wasn't skill that kept me alive but plain luck. Yes, it was stupid. But generally speaking, you won't get hit by a bus tomorrow so please don't use that stupid phrase to justify buying a car on debt you can't afford to pay back.)

I'm very much in the planning group but more planning my next target rather than a five year plan. I.e my current plan is to buy my first place in the next 8-10 months. After that I'm not sure.

I still don't know what career path to take but do know I want to make enough money to buy my own house. That's my only plan really.
