The Cerbera is now sorted, so we're up and running and looking forward to a good showing on the Brands GP circuit next weekend!!

I hope it doesn't pop a gasket again. The Brands GP circuit will test your fix as there will be quite a bit of full throttle running.

Saturday or Sunday or Both?

Qualifying is at about 5pm on Saturday and a couple of practices before, two races Sunday one at noon and one at 4pm.

What was the source of the problem John? Anything I should look out for when building up my 4.7?

5'000 protrusion of the liners in to the copper gasket is required I believe, pressure is so emense that unless it's mechanically sealed it will blow past the gasket!

How do the liners stay in place, ie what stops them slipping down, as a matter of interest?

Does the liner not have a step out at the top to locate into a recess at the top of the block that prevents them sliding down.

In higher compression engines, I know that it is common practice to have rings machined into the heads to mechanically seal the cylinder against the copper gasket, as I have on my engine (not yet assembled though). I've not heard of liners sticking out as well though?

I'd be interested to know before I put my engine together so that this issue might be avoided! If you could drop me a PM or a call John, I'd be most grateful!

Update!

Engine is brilliant and we should have a good showing tomorrow, only downside was an overheating caliper on the rear right brake that brought us in after 4 laps of qualy, complete brake failure at Graham Hill but still took the corner! We've rebuilt that one and lubed everthing else, so we are 28th out of 37 but lots of chasing down!

And we did!!!

Whilst starting from 28th in race 1, we got 20th!!

And once I was confident with the brakes,remember I had a moment at 140 mph!!, I had to start 32nd in race 2 because of the second fastest qulaifying lap rule, which was basically my out lap! We made it to 18th but were pulled back two places rightly as I overtook under the green flag post safety car just before the start finish line. Won't do that again, idiot moment that I regret!

Car is brilliant again!!! And with the new engine now running as it should it is potent!! All I need to do is qualify up the pile, we were also running last years tyres so a new set should be worth another 2+ seconds on a track like Brands GP!

Well done Johnny! It was good to see you on Saturday. Shame we couldn't make it to watch the race on Sunday, but it sounds like a sterling performance. Particularly after you braking moment!

Taken from 2 cars back during race 2, looks like you have the straight line speed but not through the corners which is borne out by your tyre comment, good to see what rear ends doing though from the outside.

I just had to get through, the squeeling of Dan's brakes was really getting to me!!! Got three points for that, just deserts as I thought I could overlap and take on the line, not allowed!! Learn't a lesson there.
