Very very annoying, the missus comes back from the shops today in her car (new shape fiat 500) with a nasty trolley ding through to bare metal.

It's a normal ding size (no more than half a fingernail exposed)

thing is we're off on holiday for a week early tomorrow. So question is, will it be ok till we are back or will it rust up and we will come back to a brown leaky mess down the side of the (White) car? Don't have access to a garage, but could leave it with a family member to get sorted and we can pay them back when we return. Would be hassle this close to holiday though.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, not had this before.

Thanks

Id mask off around it and then put a bit of paint on it if it was my car, but i cant see it being a problem if its going to be sorted in a week.

On something like a ford about 3 seconds on something galvanised ages - treat it with a product like jenolite - should stop it rusting even left as bare metal

Covering it in vaseline should help weatherproof it for a short while, as a temporary solution.

Though are the panels on a Fiat 500 aluminium?

Ohhh good point, no idea if they are alu or not, google doesn't throw up much.

Vaselines a good option. Were away first thing so won't be able to buy any product or spend much time on it.

Any others?

Clear nail varnish should be just the ticket as a temporary repair.

if youve nothing else then a drop of engine-oil from the dipstick - a temporary oily smear on the panel is better than it rusting in the future.
